A GRAPHIC DESIGNER
Hi! My name is Glenn A. Capps and I am a recent graduate of Wiregrass, Georgia Technical College with an AAS in Design & Media Production Technology. I also completed course work in Web Design (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP I) and Information Security.
Now, I am sure you have noticed my photograph and are realizing I am not your typical recent college graduate. So, before we proceed let me explain why I returned to school in pursuit of a college degree and career change after more than 40 years.
Like a lot of young students, I joined the United States Air Force after high school and enjoyed a long and lucrative career in the military and civilian aviation industry. However, a few years ago, I realized I had lost the passion I once possessed and had always wanted to pursue a career in Graphic Design. Problem was, although I had experience in working with photoshop editing photographs, creating business cards and graphics for websites, I lacked the credentials required to be competitive in today’s job market. So, at the age of 53 years old I enrolled in the local college in pursuit of an associate degree.
My time in college taught me more than I had ever expected, and I will be honest it was not easy. The curriculum and atmosphere had changed drastically since I last attend school, but I quickly adjusted, adapted and ultimately acclimated, graduating with honors and a 3.66 GPA.
So where do I go from here? Well that is totally dependent on you, the prospective employer. Are you willing to take a chance, are you willing to give a non-typical college graduate an opportunity at pursing a dream of becoming a graphics designer?
